P rhymes has been making major moves since moving out west to Alberta . He told me his been more focused on his craft earning him an Award in Cameroon for best Artist . He recently became a brand ambassador for Africstyle Fashion owned by Sache . Check out his brand new song Anita on soundcloud here he said for now his only making singles once his ready to tour he’ll record an album..
Till last week I wasn’t aware Kenya had a reality TV show similar to love and hip hop . I follow Vera Sidike on SnapChat and she was ranting about quitting the show due to her portrayal and other things I don’t feel like getting into ..So curious me decided to go to my trusty YouTube and see what Nairobi Diaries is all about ..
To be honest after seeing how Vera is not only beautiful but that body is to die for (attached picture below)check her out on Instagram.
I was expecting a show full of baddies yes I must admit I’m human I’m shallow at times . Anyway the show features Pendo,Ella,Kiki,Slyvia,Marjolein,Gertrude,Vera and a slew of other girls I’m forgetting or are just friends of the show..
Let me sum up the show before I break each character down ,BTW they say this show is not scripted *(in my Kenyan accent). The show is about socialites in Nairobi ,do I believe all of them are a socialites ?,No but eh?! Its centered on these ladies’s lives .. You can watch Season 1 on YouTube .
Now to talk about each character let me start with KiKi she’s the first (from left to right)
Kiki is an architect ,she’s well established ,beautiful very well spoken and so far I have not seen her come out of her character meaning she hasn’t exhibited any ratchet ,uncouth behavior .The only thing she’s guilty of is being a mini gossiper she told Vera things that were said about her even though vera wasn’t present so that’s the only qualms I had with her..
Pendo: she’s what Americans would call Ratchet and in our language she is known as a Mswahili ,someone who says things without filter ,isn’t afraid to fight ,hates for no reason ,tries to compete with people and is very defensive .. BTW she’s a part time singer and a “video Vixen”.
Ella: can’t remember if Ella said she went to school in Canada if so she reminds me of a Canadian ,very down to earth ,very open ,sweet ,and very naive .She unfortunately has been the target of Vera and Pendo and poor girl can’t fight to save her life ,I wish I could be there as a big sister to protect her .. I think with the right stylists she can become a household name .She’s an artist she is multitalented she has more than one project on her hands.
Slyvia Njoki: I love this girl shes reserved ,soft spoken and a fashionista .I follow her on Instagram she is killing the Nairobi fashion scene ,she’s also a mother and a writer for the Standard .
Vera :As you can see when the show started Miss Vera was very dark skinned but fast forward now she is a mzungu(white) Vera says she lightened her skin not bleached that’s for poor girls in the projects . she also said she spent 107,000 USD on her skin and boobs .She basically invested on her body coz that’s the money maker .. I think if Vera was a humble girl she would be Africa’s sweetheart and unstoppable but unfortunately she has bully tendencies ,thinks everyone is fake around her she has major trust issues .. beautiful girl though but she has demons she needs to deal with ..Btw she rose to stardom after appearing on Psquare’s video ,she now gets paid to make club appearances and she has other business ventures .
Marjolein:pronounced Marilynn*is a model and fitness guru who only cares about her workouts and her business ,she’s never in drama and never takes sides always one that listens and doesn’t really comment ..😂😂😂
There’s a lot of “fake accents ” and fake it till you make it attitude just check out the show for yourself …
Happy New year guys its been a long, long time since I blogged .. Can you imagine I’m doing it from my phone?!(writing)😃..
I’ve been thinking how I can rebrand the blog make it live again and as I was deleting some old posts ,I came across the Edmonton post ..
Let me just say Edmonton African party scene has made a three sixty since I moved to Edmonton two years ago .The parties are more quality .People are making an effort to bring their A game like seriously y’all giving Toronto a run for its money .😂😂
Famelife Ent I’m one to give credit where its due bravo to you guys .. Please check them out on Facebook for pictures of their past events … picture courtesy of Alpha Photography and Famelife Ent
I had the pleasure of meeting Princess of Calgary Miss Mona Singing at the Colors and Bling where she performed two of her tracks for the crowd..Though it was her singing to a prerecorded track you can tell the young lady has a voice of an Angel..She’s one of those artist that with the right management *hint hint @Microbell she can be the next best thing out of the African Community..You know what they say dont judge a book by its cover and I learned upon meeting Miss Mona she has a hard exterior but in a male dominant field she has no choice but to she’s actually a well mannered, sweet girl. I was quiet impressed when she contacted me and she was positive and so polite, they dont make them like her any more.. I truely wish the best for this song bird and sky is the limit for her ..Check out her rendition of African Queen by tuface..

After living in Edmonton for more than 6 months I think without shadow of a doubt I can express my opinion about the Africa scene here.Let me just warn everybody this is a really long post..
Before I moved here I did my research as always its best to know what you are walking into as a party ambassador in Toronto I knew what I wanted when I moved out. First I wanted Deejays that knew to listen to the crowd ,deejays who can tell that the crowd aint feeling the music and immediately changed to keep the audience engaged. I wanted promoters that market their parties and even though its a mirage but dammit you cant wait for the event to take place. Anyways not to dwell on the logistics of what I expected ..
I got on my trusted facebook and went down a rabbit’s hole kinda like Alice in Wonderland, I stumbled first at Club Xo bear with me wont say much but I couldnt stop looking at the pictures. Everyone looked sharp, the quality was good and you know what I couldnt wait to be at Club XO shouts out to Rayhil Ent ,Mr Perry and anyone else who ran XO on Fridays. See the reason Im talking about XO Fridays these men knew what they wanted they put their vision to life and were able to successfully run Fridays for months.
The guys behind XO are Caribbeans, black like us so why are they able to bring quality parties to the whole city and AFRICANS cant do the same?
The first African party I attended was a friends birthday party at Le Zanzibar , I had seen pictures of Le Zanzibar so I had mixed reviews about it anyway I went with an open mind after all when you new in town you gotta try out everything at least once,Lol!! No offense to Le Zanzi owner I know his trying his hardest to wipe away the stigma that surrounds the place but damn an exorcism of some sort needs to be performed there.. I had to take off my white fur coat when I got there coz I was team overdressed coming from Toronto even a trip to the market you have to dress up.. The interior is okay there’s a pool table and a little vip place but again its not the building that brings down the value of the club but its patrons..You know let me sum up Zanzibar its one of those places you go but wont admit that you go to,Dont know if you guys get it ..hhahah kinda like Whispers you knew it was dodgy but you still went lol!!
Now lets delve into the Mothers of all “Hall Parties” If I ever see another hall trust me Im gonna puke .It makes no damn sense every event is in a gotdamn hall that is far as hell ,when I came here I befriended a promoter coz I wanted to have some insights from someone who has been hosting parties in Edmonton and I kept posing the question,”do you really need to have this party in a hall? His answer was there is no clubs to host the events at but im wondering how does Mr Perry get XO or Vince Basement?Like have you tried maybe going around town and possibly speaking to club owners?
Now I’d appreciate if people got creative with these Halls turned into a club scene hire some sofas put some strobe lights ,dancing bottles or hanging chandeliers something to say ,’Hey I the promoter made a phuckin Effort and I appreciate you spending your hard earned money at my event.. The decoration is wedding like red bows and serviettes tucked into glasses like its a phuckin Communion party..Jesus take the wheel we have just come to settle in this city and get butt phucked by these promoters..
The Icing on the cake I’ve actually been to a hall party that the deejay was…wait for it.. A damn IPOD.hhahahahaha and it kept repeating the same awful song the whole night .You know there’s other nationalities you’ve extended the invitation to so why play your country music with no regards to the others that dont understand?Again why market your party to other folks?? There’s so much that grinds my gears about African promoters and deejays in Edmonton..
My advice you might think people are okay with this but hell No..something needs to be done change needs to happen ,people work hard for their coin stop putting out mediocre shit and marketing it like first grade. Ask your fellow promoters in Toronto how they do it, how they make people happy.. Trust me one day people will get tired of the fuckery and just stop coming .As you can see Basement Lounge plays African music,Xo ,Studio 107 so tell us why should one drive all the way to your event to sit on a hard taffeta covered chair with a red bow at the back listening to songs that were good 10 years ago??
How about doing a Q&A with people and finding out what you guys can do to change things up in the city it doesn’t have to be lavish but it can be quality something this city is lacking even though people are being paid way more than anyone in Canada. Hire consultants party managers somebody to steer you to the right direction..
Shouts out to Duplex who until now didnt know I have a blog this is for you….
dont forget White Party May 30th at YEG pheww thank god Courage finally broke free from the slave chains and upgraded ..Lol!!
Toronto Afro Artist P Rhymes has done it again this time featuring MMG’s own Blacko Blaze… Blacko Blaze is signed under MicroBell the man responsible for bringing African artists to Canada like Wizkid,Timaya and Bracket. Many dream of being signed to Microbell but so far the only artist who has proven his talent and drive to want to succeed is Blacko Blaze .Emerging artist need to take a page from Blacko who is dubbed the older bro in the industry.. This song has a coupe decale meets Afro mix. It was recorded in Cameroon. P Rhymes plays around with his style of music which in this day and age means he has the attention of the listeners. His last song I had an argument with a girl who refused that a humble guy like P Rhymes can be the one behind Bend down low… His a sweet heart in person but a beast in the studio.. Check out his track below
